Pat McAfee teases appearance of 'whale' for 2024 NFL Draft coverage

During Wednesday's edition of "The Pat McAfee Show," McAfee teased a major guest expected appear during the program's alternative draft broadcast.

"We got a whale," McAfee explained about the situation, per Sean Keeley of Awful Announcing and Dakota Randall of Pro Football Network. "We got a whale. I know you guys got your thing going on on NFL Network, and we follow along. We watch it as we’re doing our thing on the internet or whatever. The person that’s gonna be joining us on this thing is a big one. I think the announcement is gonna be big."

Guest Daniel Jeremiah understandably tried to get more information out of McAfee and asked if the guest's "first name and last name starts with the same letter" and if the individual has roughly eight career Super Bowl rings.

Belichick failed to land a head coaching gig this past winter. Last month, McAfee directly said he was trying to get Belichick "on this program at least once a week going forward." McAfee also praised Belichick's performance serving as a guest picker on ESPN's "College GameDay" show this past fall.

Washington Huskies defensive coordinator Steve Belichick shared in February that his famous father was "definitely pursuing other stuff" such as television-related opportunities. However, media insider Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported on Wednesday that "Belichick has told networks he is disinclined to be part of a regular studio show." Marchand added that Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and NFL Films could feature Belichick in some role during the upcoming season, but it's worth noting that team owners think Belichick will pursue coaching jobs in January 2025.

Belichick talking draft developments with McAfee could ultimately spark the beginning of a relationship involving the legendary football coach and ESPN, or it could prove to be little more than a one-off for somebody who reportedly is shopping a book. Either way, it certainly sounds like fans will see and hear Belichick during a player-selection process like never before at some point between April 25 and April 27.
